Community Picnic This Saturday!

unnamed

Meet and Greet Candidates,  Get a clear understanding of your Voting Rights and Enjoy the Free Food!

This Saturday is a very busy and exciting one for our community!  The Wichita County Democratic Association(WCDA), East of the Falls CDC, and Davenport Grocery are sponsoring a Community Picnic.  Free food, voting information, and voter registration  will be provided as well a access to state and local candidates including  Democratic Comptroller Candidate, Mike Collier.  It’s Mike’s second visit to Wichita Falls.

The WCDA is happy to announce also a chance to hear Mike Collier speak at 4pm Saturday on the topic, “Will the Economic Boom Benefit Texans?”

Please join Mike Collier at the Wichita County Democratic Headquarters 3308 Kemp to hear him speak. Texas needs a watchdog for a Comptroller, not just another ambitious legislator.

Summer Reading Program Volunteers

3291764099_ee3ff25e09_z
The 2nd Annual Summer Reading Program….” Reading Is Power! “….is off and running.  The participation has been great….we have 12 youth in the morning sessions and 12-plus in the evening sessions.

The program dates are July 1st - August 14th.  There are two sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Morning session….10:00 – 12:00pm at the Wichita Falls Housing Authority Paul Irwin Center.

Evening session…. 5:00 – 6:30pm at the Rosewood Boys and Girls Club.

The program’s  purpose is to keep our youth engaged in some fun, positive and incentive based activites over the summer.  These activities are designed to help improve reading skills…..the focus is on phonics, fluency and comprehension.  This is geared to help kids maintain, improve and enhance their skills and prepare them for the upcoming school year.

The first two weeks has revealed some serious academic issues for our youth.  Several of the kids are struggling with basic reading skills and they need our help.  We can’t wait for someone else to do this…we must take up this challenge as a concerned and caring community to help prepare our youth for future success.

We need more volunteers to help work with some of the youth one-on-one and in pairs.  All grade appropriate materials will be pre-selected.  Everything you need will be provided…you only have to come and work with the kids.

I’m asking for your support to volunteer for 2 weeks…..once or twice a week for two hours.  And if you know of someone  that might be interested in helping, please pass this on.

Please volunteer a few hours to help us meet this overwhelming challenge.  You may contact me at 940-781-9025.

Thank you and may the peace of God be with you and your family.
